final Galeria Nowhere 2015, Österreich

galeria nowhere artists
After the Nomadic Village we took a week off to gather our strenghts for the final leg of our project: Touring the Galeria Nowhere through Austria.
We visited some nice and prestigious spots. This was possible mostly thanks to:
a) friends & supporters
b) not bothering about permits & legality anymore

Again we had a lot of the rewarding moments and felt that we touched and inspired people. If just we could feed & drive on that...

Now we arrived at the fantastic Schmiede where we will immerse in different kinds of nerdism and work towards 2015's finissage of the Galeria Nowhere. See you there!

return

our homebase, Dreistetten, Austria
We managed to return back home and what's the prominent feeling? We want to return to so many places!

The longest itinerary in years brought us to a load of amazing people and places. We still can't believe the plentitude of intense experiences, strong impressions, great surprises and gratifying activities we have been through; how uplifting it can be to meet strangers and become friends; in how many ways our core interest is interpreted by different artists; how nice it is to have a bit of soap opera of people's drama along the way, but also a distraction.

It is reassuring how our grand set up held together. Only two small fixes on appr. 4000 km, and the big break down only happened when we arrived back in the garden at our homebase. Nice vehicles!

Now it is time to take that huge amount of inspiration and look ahead. We will make a final exhibition at the end of the coming Nomadic Village, and take it on a tour through Austria. We'll work our view of the plentitude of impressions into an exhibition tinski and the Captain are having in Vienna in December. And we'll happily plan a future in which the Nomadic Village will return to:

-small but dangers and CMAK in Cerkno
-Žiga and the fantastic location at the abandoned pool in Vrhnika
-Srdjan andBiljana, and their tranquil garden in Subotica
-KleinHouse, also Subotica
-finally Art Klinika, maybe we'll just illegally exhibit in Novi Sad's public space
-a thousand places and people in Romania we didn't have enough time to stay
 with
-Conny in Wurmloch who, like so many other people in Romania, made us feel
 welcome
-Mircea, Crinu and all the other pilots from Brasov
-Ulric, we'll meet in Amstelveen soon
-Lis, with whom we are sure our paths will cross again. And again.
-Francisca, our first artist in a mobile residency, once we find a way to go to
 Chile
-Andrew and Caitlin, who just got themselves a mini coach!

Thanks for being on the road with us! We are off now for the final Nomadic Village on Hohe Wand. Hooray!

feeling understood: 1st artist in residence francisca alsua morchio

francisca alsua morchio
In 2015 we realized an idea that we've been having since years: A mobile residency. After being one of the artists of the Nomadic Village in Cerkno, Francisca Alsua Morchio joined us on the road for two weeks as the first artist in our itinerant residence. She travelled with us on the bus, had her atelier in the Galeria Nowhere Caravan and slept in her tent.
Francisa is a Chilenean artist and during the Nomadic Village and the residency she did collage paintings constructed with lighting gels. She made one collage on each place we stayed at, and left them for us and the Galeria Nowhere. She also left a suitcase filled with stories she had collected. Those stories went into her lovely blog transmutedstories, a read we strongly recommend!

But talking about Francisca is not possible by only mentioning her work. Francisca was the ideal travelling companion. She quickly understood why we do the Nomadic Village, embraced being part of it and supported our being on the road beyond what we could have hoped. She is one of the few people who (not without quite some struggle!) manages a great balance between being natural and emotional, and having (and standing up to) strong opinions without being shy about them.

We are thinking about calling this new residency program 'The Francisca Residency'...

We know that a small group of creative people can change the world.
In fact, they are the only ones so far, who have done it …

Credo of KleinHouse, our host in Subotica

After a series of spontaneous shows of the Galeria Nowhere travelling exhibition in a field and next to a cemetery in Croatia and in a squat in Slovenia, we arrived in Serbia with an exhibition program professionaly arranged by our friends Biljana and Srdjan (see previous post).
The only downside was that we had to get up at 6 a.m. for the show in Sombor, but the prestigeous location (permit thanks to Kulturni centar Laza Kostic Sombor) in front of the townhall more than made up for it. Upsides there were plenty; great audience (a lot of!), great spots, press, tv and more... plus a very rewarding feeling of being appreciated by people who invest themselves into alternativ arts and culture much the way we do. Actually we were made to feel much like the small creative group of people mentioned in KleinHouse's credo above.

Here are two links with more pictures of the exhibition in Subotica.
