return

our homebase, Dreistetten, Austria
We managed to return back home and what's the prominent feeling? We want to return to so many places!

The longest itinerary in years brought us to a load of amazing people and places. We still can't believe the plentitude of intense experiences, strong impressions, great surprises and gratifying activities we have been through; how uplifting it can be to meet strangers and become friends; in how many ways our core interest is interpreted by different artists; how nice it is to have a bit of soap opera of people's drama along the way, but also a distraction.

It is reassuring how our grand set up held together. Only two small fixes on appr. 4000 km, and the big break down only happened when we arrived back in the garden at our homebase. Nice vehicles!

Now it is time to take that huge amount of inspiration and look ahead. We will make a final exhibition at the end of the coming Nomadic Village, and take it on a tour through Austria. We'll work our view of the plentitude of impressions into an exhibition tinski and the Captain are having in Vienna in December. And we'll happily plan a future in which the Nomadic Village will return to:

-small but dangers and CMAK in Cerkno
-Žiga and the fantastic location at the abandoned pool in Vrhnika
-Srdjan andBiljana, and their tranquil garden in Subotica
-KleinHouse, also Subotica
-finally Art Klinika, maybe we'll just illegally exhibit in Novi Sad's public space
-a thousand places and people in Romania we didn't have enough time to stay
 with
-Conny in Wurmloch who, like so many other people in Romania, made us feel
 welcome
-Mircea, Crinu and all the other pilots from Brasov
-Ulric, we'll meet in Amstelveen soon
-Lis, with whom we are sure our paths will cross again. And again.
-Francisca, our first artist in a mobile residency, once we find a way to go to
 Chile
-Andrew and Caitlin, who just got themselves a mini coach!

Thanks for being on the road with us! We are off now for the final Nomadic Village on Hohe Wand. Hooray!

on the rainy roadside

on the rainy roadside
Nomadic Village was woken very early by an alarming rain; if we don't drive off our lovely meadow immediately, we might sink into the softening ground and get stuck with all our 10 tons! Fortunately we managed to relocate from our beautiful middle of nowhere to a road leading through that middle of nowhere...

It seems like we will spend the day engulfed in a drizzle.
How wonderful to be able to just call it a pyjama day in the bus!

holy gamoly

an orthodox view
Cerkno has really changed something within the Nomadic Village. When the Village was saved by a priest who allowed us to put our settlement behind the church, we realised that this might also be a possibility for the future. In the end it is the church's tradition to welcome travellers...
Today again, but enough of that, we are simply happy to have a very tranquil place for tonight.

nice to be welcome on that property

ulric roldanus: home sweet home

article by ulric roldanus

at home around Brasov
Ending my pilgrimage by bycicle from Medjugorje to Csiksomlyo/Miercurea Ciuc meant staying some days in the Nomadic Village itself, as they were hosting my project, so to say.
So after a first encounter with Tina and Klaus in Sighisoara, I set up my tent for the last few days in the 'Village' now based on the hills just outside of Brasov. And here we found time and space to share our thoughts on Nomadism, creativity, art-projects and other smaller issues that can occur in our lives.
For me it was a time to rest a bit physically, but at the same time my head and heart continued at full speed developing new ideas for art-works and collecting some basic materials for them as well.
And now that I'm almost at the end of the line here, I must say that I'm also looking forward to returning to my studio to complete my contribution to the Nomadic Village in a different way, by making pieces for the Galeria Nowhere.
Although the track up to here -espescially at first- felt quite rough by times, arriving on these hills in Romania and settling in in the Village feels indeed as Klaus said: "Home sweet home!"

meeting ulric roldanus in sighisoara

great talking to ulric

It was great to meet another artist on the road, Ulric Roldanus, and we are happy he will join us again around Brașov next week.

During his project Ulric covers a distance of appr. 1600 km by bicycle. When tracking his progress we found out that on some days he is faster than the Nomadic Village. He finally caught up with us in the beautiful town of Sighișoara.
